A 40-year-old man was killed and his brother seriously injured in a clash between two groups over setting up a vegetable stall in Ryoti town here, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday night near the seed depot in Ryoti.

During the altercation, members of the rival groups allegedly attacked each other with sticks and iron rods, seriously injuring Danji Turha (40) and his brother Bulan Turha, officials said.

Deputy Inspector of Police (Periya) Muhammad Fahim Qureshi said that the two injured people were immediately taken to a local government hospital, where doctors declared Danji Turha dead.

He added that the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

The officer said that based on a complaint filed by Bhulan Turha, a case was registered against Sunil Turha, his mother Meena Devi, Aman Sahni and Kodhurni Devi under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Some unidentified persons have also been named as accused in the case.

Qureshi added that efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
