Easy access to voting information on search and YouTube
Google has stated that its primary focus is to provide easy access to reliable information from trusted sources.

To display important details on Google Search and YouTube, such as how to register and vote, in English and Hindi.
Apart from this, YouTube’s recommendation system will prioritize trustworthy content during the election season. Additionally, the YouTube homepage will prominently display trusted content alongside an “Up Next” panel to make election-related details easily available to users.
YouTube will also highlight content from trusted sources during important moments through Top Stories and Breaking News as well as the News Watch page.
Furthermore, the tech giant has also created dashboards that indicate funding sources from publishers that receive public or government funding and dashboards that provide objective context for topics prone to misinformation.
Protecting false information
To protect the integrity of the electoral process and protect its products and services from abuse, Google has reimplemented its existing policies to keep its products and platforms secure while reducing misinformation. The policies also apply to all users, regardless of content type.
The company has employed a combination of human reviewers and AI models to identify and remove content that violates these policies. Google’s AI capabilities enhance anti-abuse efforts, enabling faster action against emerging threats.
Advertising during election campaigns
To keep things transparent when it comes to election ads, the company requires advertisers to undergo identity verification and submit the necessary certificates from the Election Commission. Election ads must also include disclosures indicating the identity and location of the advertiser. Google maintains a searchable hub for all election ads, providing insights into advertisers and their spending.
Restricting AI generated content
Google has also taken some steps to help identify AI-generated content with new tools and policies. The company has introduced disclosure requirements for election ads containing synthetic content and will soon require YouTube creators to label edited factual or synthetic content. The new ad policies prohibit the use of manipulated media to mislead people, such as deepfakes or manipulated content.
Google also restricted Gemini on the types of election-related inquiries it would respond to, and prioritized providing high-quality information. Additional features, such as the “About this image” tool in search and a digital watermark for AI-generated images, aim to provide users with context and assess authenticity.
Furthermore, Google has joined the C2PA Alliance, a cross-industry effort to provide transparency and context to AI-generated content. The company confirmed the deployment of technology to confront harmful content generated by artificial intelligence that aims to deceive voters during the 2024 elections.
