Ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final between the Indian national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team, former Australia skipper Michael Clarke heaped praises on Indian star Jasprit Bumrah, describing him as the most important player in world cricket at the moment. Clarke also suggested that Bumrah could play a crucial role in the title clash and even emerge as player of the match.Bumrah has been one of India’s standout players in the ongoing tournament. He currently stands second in the team’s wicket-taking charts with 10 scalps from seven matches, behind Varun Chakaravarthy, who has 13 wickets. The fast bowler also maintained an impressive economy rate of 6.63, the best among Indian bowlers in this edition.

Speaking on the Beyond23 cricket show, Clarke highlighted Bumrah’s exceptional ability to perform under pressure, saying his execution sets him apart from the rest.
“One thing is having a lot of options (variations), but more importantly, having the skills to execute under pressure. That’s what makes him the best in the world. He’s been a defining factor for India. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s man of the match in the final. He’s very dominant.”Clarke also stressed Bumrah’s value in all formats of the game, describing him as the rare match-winner who delivers consistent performances in high-pressure situations.
“India are the standout team in this tournament. They’ve been absolutely brilliant. We probably haven’t talked about him much throughout this World Cup campaign, because we expect that now. Bumrah. He’s just a freak. In all three competitions, he’s, by far, the most important player in the world in all three formats. He’s a match-winner, he bowls the hardest shots. A run-saving machine, a wicket-taker, he executes under pressure better than anyone in world cricket.”
“The former Australian skipper also reflected on the challenge of managing a bowler like Bumrah if he captains the team. According to Clark, deciding when to use a pacemaker during an innings will be the biggest tactical decision for any captain.“He has so many different skills. It’s like when you see the best batsmen, we always talk about how to bowl under pressure, but they do it in different conditions around the world. Bumrah does that. He wins matches in all different conditions and at different stages of the game. If I was captaining him, my biggest challenge would be when to use him. That’s why they’re not looking to open the bowling with him and you want two doubles from him at the death.”
