It’s been nearly two months since PinkPantheress released the music video for Zara Larsson’s iconic remix of her song “Stateside.” While the pop stars joining forces has received a lot of attention and streams online, the song has received a bit of an unexpected shock recently.
American figure skater Alyssa Liu, who just captured gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, has been on a viral spree of her own, with Gala’s original performance of the Bay Area native’s “Stateside” remix in particular drawing attention.
Liu, 20, gave a shout-out to PinkPantheress and Larsson in her routine during the non-medal portion of the Games, allowing the skaters to have a little more fun by doing some of the choreography to the song. The obsession with Liu’s performance has made a tangible difference for the pop song, which has climbed the charts and seen its streams increase. Larson is currently touring the US in support of her superstardom Midnight sun She performed the song at her Los Angeles tour stop earlier this week — and the crowd had a blast.
“Stateside” jumped to No. 13 from No. 41 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. It is the song’s highest chart position to date. It has reached number one on Spotify’s US and international top songs chart. It remains at No. 1 on the global daily chart and is currently No. 2 on the daily chart and No. 4 on the US weekly chart. The US No. 1 spot marked Larson’s No. 1 on the Spotify chart.
The number of streams of the song has increased significantly in the United States, according to Luminate Data. The song received approximately 1.1 million on-demand streams in the United States on February 21, the day of the Olympic Figure Skating Exhibition Ceremony. It received approximately 2.8 million on-demand streams on February 28 in the United States, just one week later.
Spotify says the highest stream day for a song on the platform was February 28 globally. Despite this, “Stateside” is still going strong. More than 5 million daily streams have been tracked globally on Spotify since February 26, according to the platform.
In the week following the figure skating routine, TikTok saw a more than 50 percent increase in video views of the song compared to the previous week.
PinkPantheress took to Instagram to share her excitement about the latest boost. “What face is going on with y’all???? US is #1 on the US Spotify chart,” she wrote in part as her caption to a photo posted last week.
“The ‘Stateside’ girl was at the Olympics! Dreams come true,” she continued. The British singer also took some time to shout out her collaborators and Leo herself. The figure skater commented on the post and called PinkPatheress a boss.
Larson also posted a photo of herself with PinkPantheress to celebrate. “You’re listening to the No. 1 song in the world right now,” she said. “PinkPantheress, thank you for having me on your truly perfect song.”
