Shauna Thomas, executive producer of CBS Morningis leaving the program as new owners Paramount are expected to reshape the network.
Thomas has headed the morning show for the past five years and will step down at the end of March. Senior broadcast producer John Tower will play CBS Morning On a temporary basis once Thomas leaves.
The news comes one day after presenter Gayle King renewed her deal to remain as co-host of the series CBS MorningAfter speculation about her future at the network under the new leadership of Editor-in-Chief Barry Weiss and President Tom Cebrowski.
The show is co-hosted by Nate Burleson, who was also confirmed to continue on the show on Wednesday, and Tony Dokoupil, who left the show to move to CBS Evening News.
In a memo to staff, Thomas did not give a specific reason for leaving the network, but said it was a decision she had been considering for some time.
“I’ve had the privilege of helping produce 10 hours (now 12!) of television each week that is broadcast for free to people everywhere. I’ve had the responsibility of trying to inform, educate, entertain and make people care about the world around them seriously, and I know people here do too,” Thomas wrote.
She continued: “Now, this is not a great farewell message. But you should know that I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and frankly, I’m tired of all of you.”
She also praised King’s decision to remain with the network, saying, “I’m so happy that Gayle King has reached an agreement and will continue to bring her bright, bright face and amazing interviewing skills to CBS Morning And CBS News. I bow down to her and her talent every day and thank her for her kindness and work ethic.
