TLC has officially booked the return of Welcome to Plathville.
But the long-running reality show will look very different this spring than it has in the past.
For starters, Olivia Plath has already said she won’t be returning to the show… not after she and Ethan Plath ended their marriage and Olivia quickly moved on with her life.
Now, meanwhile, in the first trailer for Welcome to Plathville, Season 8, we hear Lydia decide on air: “Everyone is stepping into a whole new chapter in their lives.”
She does so as we check out footage of newlyweds Lydia and Zach Wise, the latter of whom was unwittingly embroiled in family drama last season after Isaac and Micah Plath got into a fight at his wedding.
“I was angry,” Lydia says in the trailer. “I was really upset with my family for what they did.”
The preview also shows Plath’s matriarch, Kim, returning to the family farm in Georgia, ready to focus on her future and her renewed relationship with boyfriend Ken Palmer.
While Kim seems happy in this relationship, she is well aware that things are very divided between her and Lydia. You will try to repair fences in many uncomfortable ways.
“I smoked weed in college, also known as a dope,” Kim told a confused Lydia during one mother-daughter bonding attempt.
In another scene, the two have a more serious discussion about their strained relationship.
“We used to be very close before the divorce,” Kim says, to which Lydia (who has often criticized her loved ones as fake Christians) responds:
“Whenever I talk to you, it feels like I’m talking to a brick wall.”
Season 7 of Welcome to Plathville concluded with Kim and Barry Plath celebrating the official end of their 24-year marriage and the news that they have finally finalized their divorce.
In future episodes, fans will see how Barry acts as a single man while searching for a potential partner who has a “Sandra Bullock look,” according to the patriarch.
“I’m single and ready to mingle,” declared Barry, who has returned to the dating scene.
For his part, Ethan Plath will make a “bold move” in hopes of preserving it for him The relationship with his girlfriend, Tegan… while the younger brother, Isaac, fears that his relationship with his girlfriend, Kailyn, will develop too quickly.
Elsewhere: Micah Plath will try to rebuild his life after his breakup with Veronica Peters; Moriah Plath hopes to find peace in Montana.
Welcome to the Season 8 premiere of Plathville on March 31 on TLC.
