Ziaur Rahman (25) from Rai Buri and Fahad Khan (22) from Bisru villages traveled to Iran in 2023 to pursue MBBS at Arak University. As tensions rise, their parents and relatives say they are worried, although both students noted that the situation in Arak remains stable for now.

Shams al-Din (57 years old), Abdel Rahman’s father, a government teacher, said he remains in regular contact with his son. “I spoke to him on Monday afternoon. We contact him once every day to get an update on the situation there. Although he told us that the situation in Arak is relatively better, we are a little nervous,” he said.

Quoting his son, Shamsuddin said that many students from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana are studying with him. He said, “My son and others are in constant contact with university officials. He also informed that Indian embassy officials are in touch with university officials and have collected details of all the students studying there.” He added that his son is in the sixth semester and semester exams are taking place.

Taslim Khan (39 years old), Fahd’s uncle, said that they last spoke to him on Monday after a break of two or three days.

“We are unable to contact him frequently, as the calls are not arriving. However, he explained that the current situation in Arak is normal. University officials are providing all support to foreign students including those from India,” he said and appealed to the central government to ensure their welfare.

Nuh District Commissioner Akhil Bilani said that the administration is in touch with the families. “We are in contact with the family members and closely monitoring the situation. We will take necessary measures in accordance with policies whenever necessary based on the directives of the central government,” he said.
