Screaming 7 Star Anna Camp has issued an apology for a statement she shared on social media that mocked those who protested the new film in the wake of Melissa Barrera’s controversial departure from the franchise.
Camp shared a story on another Instagram account that quipped: “The boycott didn’t work. Critics’ hatred didn’t work. The pathetic leaks didn’t work. What worked was the fans coming out and making the movie a success.”

The boycott refers to the uproar over Barrera’s expulsion from the country Screaming 7 In 2023 after appearing in the fifth and sixth films of the series. Barrera wrote social media posts regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas that the film’s production company, Spyglass Media Group, described as anti-Semitic. Star Jenna Ortega quickly left, as did the film’s original director, Christopher Landon.
The project was eventually given an overhaul with Kevin Williamson joining as director and original franchise star Neve Campbell returning. The film’s premiere attracted a small group of pro-Palestine protesters outside Paramount Studios Square.
As for “critics’ dislike,” it indicates that the film received the worst score on Rotten Tomatoes, at only 34 percent, but its audience rating reached 78 percent.
Screaming 7 It opened to a franchise-best $64.1 million domestically and $33.1 million overseas for a global debut of $97.2 million. In North America, this is the biggest launch ever for a horror title coming out in February.
