'Good time to stay in India': H-1B Redditor asks if people working in India save more than those in the US

An Indian Redditor who was selected in the H-1B visa lottery in 2025 asked on the social media platform if staying in India is the right option right now. At a time when the business environment in the US has become hostile to Indians, and many companies are now reluctant to hire Indians on the H-1B visa program, the Redditor said that Indians working in the US are able to save $1,500 to $3,000 per month.

An H-1B Redditor asks if this is a good time to stay in India.

“I am an h1b holder from India selected on March 2025. My friends are staying in USA since last few years (in different states), and they all have a common point now, “This is a good time to stay in India”. When I ask why they say now in India, we can get 30-35 LPA per year and if husband works it will be good.. In USA for 115-125 thousand, they say they barely save 1500-3000 USD per month (depending on husband only or with child) and other factors.. like no family or home help etc,” A Redditor wrote asking for suggestions.

Who saves more? What is Reddit’s ruling?

The comments section of the viral post turned into a major discussion. But the main idea is that the answer depends on the employer. If it is a US based hiring company that will send the H-1B to the client, the risk is greater for less money. Reddit users said FAAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google) jobs are safer than consulting jobs as the US State Department is also targeting these consultancies. Social media users are divided on whether saving $2,000 a month on average is enough in the United States.

Many felt that it was not possible in India to get a 35LPA job. “Considering the politics in the US, and the GDP growth in India, the opportunities are much better here (India). Less discrimination also allows you to do more. My salary is 75 LPA not including ESOPs etc (8 years of previous work). Based in Belar. I have an MBA from a top ranked Indian university, and a very standard salary for my qualifications,” Someone wrote explaining that staying in India is better.
