The first was that I felt incredibly bummed because Kelsey is one of my really good friends and the most amazing actors I’ve ever worked with. We’re really close, and for a while I couldn’t imagine doing this without her. I was like, ‘This doesn’t even make sense.’ Casey and Monica are the same thing. They’re one.” But I also realized there was a big story there.
Showrunner Spencer Hudnut also explained the team’s reasons behind Monica’s death.
“It was important to try to honor that character,” Hudnut noted. “And also to use her death as a way to highlight a real issue that reservations face. … She died, and that’s why Tate wanted to go to the rally, that’s why Kayce went to the rally. And so she’s really driving his journey.”

It’s not clear if fans will get to see flashbacks of Monica in the Marshals movie, but showrunner Hudnut said Electronic warfare “The character’s presence and spirit will remain throughout this series.”
“She’s a big part of Casey Dutton’s character, and she’ll be with him all the way,” Hudnut added.
