Thiruvananthapuram, a 24-hour special help desk set up by NORKA Roots, in the wake of the Israel-Iran conflict, received 381 calls till 11:30 am on Sunday, officials said.

The help desk has been set up as per the directions of the Prime Minister’s Office to assist non-resident Kerala residents and their family members amid rising tensions in the region.

The chief marketing officer said in a statement that of the total incoming calls, 137 calls were from abroad and 244 were from within the country.

They added, “Most inquiries were related to the current status of flight services, cancellations, travel guidelines, and safety instructions. There were also inquiries regarding the possibility of evacuation from Gulf countries and travel safety.”

She added that those who contacted the help desk from abroad informed the authorities that they were fine, but expressed concern about the prevailing conflict situation and ongoing attacks in the region.

The primary objective of the help desk is to share verified information received from the central and state governments and coordinate necessary assistance in emergency situations, officials said.

The marketing director added that all calls were recorded and officially documented for follow-up actions.

An assessment meeting was held at NORKA Roots headquarters under the auspices of Managing Secretary T V Anupama and CEO Ajith Kulasiri to review the situation and preparedness measures.

The Kerala government is closely monitoring developments and maintaining coordination with the central government, Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions in affected countries, Lok Sabha members and diaspora organisations, the statement said.

She added that NRKs in conflict-affected countries have been advised to rely only on information from official sources.
