Chennai Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in West Asia, Prime Minister M K Stalin has asked the Non-Resident Tamil Welfare and Rehabilitation Department to know the situation of Tamils living in the Gulf countries.

He said that a control room has been set up at the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi and the situation is being monitored.
Stalin, despite his insistence that the government was in constant contact with the Tamils living in the Gulf countries, stressed that his government was ready to provide them with all necessary assistance.
“If Tamils in Gulf countries need any emergency assistance due to the prevailing situation, they or their family members in Tamil Nadu can call the 24×7 toll-free numbers of the Non-Resident Tamil Welfare Department or the Tamil Nadu Home Control Room in New Delhi,” the Prime Minister said in a statement issued late on February 28.
He appealed to people seeking assistance to strictly follow the instructions issued by the Indian embassy in their areas.
Stalin also shared New Delhi control room helpline numbers 011-24193300, 09289516712 for people who need help. The statement added that the contact numbers for the Non-Resident Tamil Welfare Department are 1800 309 3793, abroad 91 80 69009900 91 80 69009901.
On the other hand, AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition, Edappadi K Palaniswami, urged the Union government to take appropriate measures for the safety of Tamils living in the Gulf countries.

“I urge the central government to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of Tamils living there,” Palaniswami said in a social media post.
PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, whose party is an ally of the NDA, also appealed to the Center to ask the governments of Gulf countries to ensure the safety of Indians living there by adopting possible methods.
He said that nearly a million Indians live in the Gulf countries, which includes 40,000 people in the UAE and 28,000 people in Saudi Arabia.
“Due to this situation, a major threat has arisen to the safety of Indians, including Tamils, living in the Gulf countries,” Anbumani said in a statement on Sunday.
Noting the cancellation of flight services to countries, including Dubai, a situation has emerged where Indians cannot be saved, he said.
“I request Indians to remain safe by adhering to the advice given by the government and security agencies in those countries,” he said.
