The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday announced the postponement of the board exams for classes X and XII scheduled to be held on March 2 in several West Asian countries following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran that resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iranian retaliatory strikes on neighboring Gulf states.

Examinations scheduled to be held on March 2 “for both Classes 10 and 12 have been postponed” and the new dates will be announced “at a later date,” CBSE said in a circular.

The letter was sent to principals of more than 150 schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

“The Council will review the situation on Tuesday 03 March 2026 and will make appropriate decisions regarding the examinations scheduled from 05 March onwards,” the communication read.

“All students are advised to stay in touch with their schools for updates and follow official announcements carefully,” Sanyam Bhardwaj said in the circular issued by CBSE Controller of Examinations, Sanyam Bhardwaj.

The West Asia region forms the largest overseas concentration of CBSE schools, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh among the major examination centres.

Class 10th and 12th board exams started on February 18. More than 4.37 million students, including 2.51 million 10th grade students and 1.86 million 12th grade students, are taking the exams in India and abroad.
