At least 15 people were killed in an explosion at an explosives manufacturing plant in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Sunday morning, police said.

A senior police official said that the explosion occurred at the SBL Energy Limited factory, a mining and industrial explosives factory, in Rawalgaon in Katol tehsil.

Representatives of SBL Energy Limited told PTI that the incident occurred at the company’s lightning packing unit between 7 am and 7.15 am.

Police said that the injured were taken to a hospital in Nagpur immediately after the explosion.

A company official said that rescue operations are underway and they will issue a statement soon.
