The Assistant Commander of CoBRA, a special unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was injured in an IED blast during an anti-Maoist operation in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Sunday, a senior police officer said.

He added that the incident occurred in Saranda forest when an explosive device planted by the banned Maoist party exploded.

“An assistant commander was injured in the blast and was airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi,” West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Amit Renu told PTI.

Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA) is a special operations unit of the Central Reserve Police Force, adept in guerrilla and jungle warfare tactics.

He added that following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and conducted a large-scale search.
