Artificial intelligence company Anthropic said on Friday (local time) that it will challenge the Pentagon’s decision to classify the company as a supply chain risk in court, according to a Reuters report.
This comes hours after US President Donald Trump directed federal agencies to stop using the company’s technology. Trump had ordered every federal department to “immediately” stop using Anthropic products, while agencies that currently rely on its tools were given a six-month deadline to phase out these products. In a sharply critical post on Truth Social, Trump described the company’s leadership as “left-wing jobs,” suggesting a deepening rift between the White House and the Pentagon’s main AI suppliers. “The United States of America will never allow a radical left corporation to dictate how we fight our great military battles and win wars!” Trump wrote. He said decisions about how the United States conducts military operations “belong to your commander in chief,” and accused Anthropic of trying to “strengthen the arm of the War Department” to adhere to its terms of service “instead of our Constitution.” Trump also claimed that the company’s “selfishness puts American lives at risk” and leaves national security “at risk.”
