The Pakistani Senate on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to create a “hexagon of alliances”, describing it as an attempt by the Israeli leadership to compromise the unity and integrity of the “Islamic nation.”
“Netanyahu said that Israel plans to build a “hexagon” of alliances that include India, Arab countries, African countries, and Mediterranean countries. According to him, the goal is to enhance coordination between countries with similar trends and confront extremist axes in the region.Netanyahu said, according to the Times of Israel, that Israel “will create a whole system — basically a kind of six-party alliance — around or within the Middle East.”
He added, “What is meant here is to create an axis of countries that sees reality, challenges, and goals in the same way, in contrast to the radical axes.” The Israeli Prime Minister said: “Both the extremist Shiite axis, which we hit hard, as well as the emerging axis – the extremist Sunni axis. All of these countries share a different point of view, and cooperation between us can yield very great fruits and, of course, ensure our strength and our future.”
Prime Minister Modi is on a visit to Israel, where he addressed a special plenary session of the Knesset, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament. The resolution taken by the Pakistani Senate, which was passed in the House of Representatives by Balwasha Muhammad Zai Khan of the Pakistan People’s Party, denounced what he described as the continued provocative steps and statements by the Israeli leadership that threaten regional and international peace and stability, including the recent statement on creating alliances against Islamic countries. The Senate resolution also condemned Israel’s attempts to undermine “the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of sisterly Islamic countries and reject” the declaration of recognition of the independence of the Somaliland region in Somalia. He also condemned Israel’s continued violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and its disregard for international law, the United Nations Charter, the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. The Council expressed its deep concern about what it called “the despicable tendency of the leadership of the Israeli occupation force to undermine the unity and integrity of the Islamic nation for political and ideological reasons,” according to the Pakistani Dawn newspaper. It rejected attempts to change the legal or historical status of the occupied Palestinian territory, including the holy sites, impose a new administrative reality in the occupied territory, expand settlement activities, encourage settler violence, or forcibly displace Palestinians. It urged the international community to “put an end to Israel’s impunity and hold it accountable for its crimes against humanity, as well as its provocative actions that constitute a threat to all countries in the region.” The Senate called for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories and increased humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, including through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, as well as early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. The House of Representatives reaffirmed Pakistan’s historic support for the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
