The Prime Minister will begin the day with a visit to Israel’s official memorial institution for Holocaust victims, Yad Vashem. The memorial was established in 1953 by law passed by the Knesset or the Israeli Parliament, read on its official website.

His visit will be immediately followed by bilateral talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog from 0930 to 1040 hours.

After a short break, Prime Minister Modi will hold delegation-level talks with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, which will be followed by an exchange of MoUs and press statements. According to an Associated Press report, Netanyahu’s office said the two leaders will sign a myriad of economic, security and political cooperation agreements.

Finally, the Prime Minister will also interact with prominent members of the Indian Jewish community before boarding the flight back to New Delhi.

India-Israel relations

On his visit to Israel, Prime Minister Modi said India is “committed to further strengthening” its relationship with Israel “in many sectors,” including security and sharing advances in artificial intelligence and quantum technology.

He added during his speech in the Knesset that the two countries are committed to expanding trade, enhancing investment flows, and promoting joint infrastructure development.

In the last fiscal year, the total value of trade between Israel and its second-largest trading partner in Asia – India, amounted to $3.6 billion, according to the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which was reported by the Associated Press news agency.

Netanyahu also expressed his gratitude to the Indian Prime Minister because he was one of the first global leaders to express solidarity with Israel after the attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Netanyahu said while speaking in the Knesset: “You did not hesitate, you did not back down, you did not make excuses, you stood by Israel, and you stood by Israel.”

Narendra Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to set foot in Israel in 2017, prompting the Israeli Prime Minister to reciprocate the move with a trip to India next year.
