Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday became the first global leader and politician to cross the historic mark of 100 million followers on Instagram.

The Prime Minister joined the Meta-owned platform in 2014, and his account has grown into one of the most engaging digital spaces among world leaders over the past decade.
Prime Minister Modi has twice as many Instagram followers as US President Donald Trump.
In essence, the total number of followers of the following five major global leaders is less than the number of followers of Prime Minister Modi individually.
Trump ranks second with 43.2 million followers, followed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million. The Brazilian President comes in fourth place with 14.4 million followers, followed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with 11.6 million followers. Finally, Argentine President Javier Miley has 6.4 million followers.

The data reflects Prime Minister Modi’s global outreach and appeal among young people across the world.
In India too, there is a huge gap in the number of followers between the Prime Minister and other politicians.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is in second place with 16.1 million followers, which is miles less than Prime Minister Modi. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi ranks third with about 12.6 million followers.
Prime Minister Modi is most popular among world leaders
As of December 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the highest approval rating among selected world leaders. According to Statista, Prime Minister Modi has an approval rating of 70 per cent, ranking first on the list among other global leaders.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaishi ranked second with a support rate of 63 percent, and Argentine Javier Miley came in third place with a support rate of 60 percent.
US President Donald Trump ranked 11th with a support rate of 43 percent, according to Statista.
According to the latest data released by US-based business intelligence firm Morning Consult, Prime Minister Modi ranked first with an approval rating of 67 per cent.
The intelligence company’s findings were based on data collected from February 2 to February 8, 2026.
Czech Andrej Babis ranked second with 59 percent. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaishi ranked fifth with 56 percent, while US President Donald Trump ranked 11th with 40 percent support.
According to Morning Consult data for 2025, Prime Minister Modi topped the global list of “democratic leaders’ approval ratings” with an approval rating of 75 percent, followed by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung with 59 percent.
Meanwhile, Trump ranked eighth with an approval rating of less than 45 percent.
