The Center on Tuesday banned five OTT platforms for broadcasting obscene content, officials said. This came after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) received many grievances regarding these applications.

The apps are blocked as per the Information Technology Act and the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules 2021). IT rules prevent illegal and harmful content in the digital space.
Following the due process decision taken by the MIB, government sources have released a list of OTT platforms that have been banned.
Which OTT platforms are blocked?
• MoodXVIP
• Koel Play Pro
• Digi Movieplex
• feel
• Jugno
As a matter of due process, the Center has directed ISPs to block access to these applications under the Information Technology Rules 2021 and anti-obscenity laws. PTI news agency reported that these rules aim to preserve public morals, protect national interests, and enforce ethical journalistic practices across digital platforms.
25 OTT platforms were previously banned by the government
The latest developments came months after the government banned 25 OTT platforms in July 2025.
The government blocked the 25 apps and their related mobile applications for allegedly broadcasting obscene, vulgar and in some cases “pornographic” content, according to official sources. The list of banned platforms included prominent names such as ALTBalaji, Ulu, Gulab App, Wow Entertainmen, and others.
The action was taken after authorities found the platforms in “serious violation” of the Information Technology Rules, 2021. The banned apps allegedly hosted videos and web series containing “sexual innuendos” and, in some cases, extended scenes of “explicit sexual acts involving nudity” which were deemed “pornographic” in nature.
Most of the content on these platforms was found to lack any “meaningful story, theme or social message,” and was primarily focused on “obscene and vulgar” visuals, according to a source.
