Bullet holes were found on an American Airlines plane during a flight from Colombia to Miami, and no one knows how it happened

Bullet holes were found on the exterior of an American Airlines plane after it landed in Miami on February 23. But there is no conclusive information about how and when this happened. ABC News reported that Colombian authorities have begun an investigation into the incident.

The airline said the holes were found during a routine inspection when the plane returned to Miami. The preliminary investigation indicated that the plane may have been bombed while landing in Medellin, Colombia, on Sunday. “The aircraft was immediately taken out of service for further inspection and repair. We will work closely with all relevant authorities to investigate this incident,” the airline said in a statement to ABC News.

Colombian authorities said they suspected a criminal group was behind the targeting of the flight, but no conclusion had been reached. No one was injured and the shooting attack did not impair the flight’s ability to fly.

But the bullet holes had not been discovered earlier when it set off from Medellin. Flightradar24 data shows the Boeing 737 MAX 8 traveled from Medellin to Miami on Monday morning and then from Miami to Dallas later that evening.

According to Air Live, bullet holes were discovered in the plane’s wing assembly. Maintenance crews on the ground noticed puncture marks on the right aileron, which is responsible for the plane’s lateral balance. The incident was first reported by aviation insider JonNYC on X, who reported: “I’m told bullet holes were found in an AA plane in Medellin, Colombia, on Monday morning.” The Federal Aviation Administration said it had not been informed of the incident.
