Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Chambai Soren’s grandson Veer Soren died while visiting Manali with his friends on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday, when 19-year-old Veer came to Manali with his friends and stayed at a house in Simsa near Manali.

Champai Soren went to X to announce his grandson’s death, saying Veer’s health had deteriorated in Manali and he had been admitted to hospital. “He was admitted to the hospital on February 24 after a sudden illness but fate had other plans. With Veer’s passing, our family is shattered,” Soren added.

Police said Veer complained of severe headache and took medication. Hours later, he lost consciousness and fell out of bed with foam surrounding his mouth. Manali DSP KD Sharma said that while prima facie there was no foul play, the family had refused to conduct an autopsy.

Here’s everything you need to know about Veer Soren’s death:

  • Veer and his friends visited Himachal Pradesh on February 22 and stayed at a house in Simsa near Manali.
  • On Monday, the group visited Solang, Sithan and Hamta Pass as part of their tourist itinerary and returned to the accommodation in the evening.
  • Police said Veer complained of a severe headache after his return. While the friends went out, Veer stayed in his room. He also took the medicine and went to sleep.
  • Hours later, friends heard Fair fall from his bed. When they entered the room, Veer was lying unconscious with foam coming out of his mouth.
  • He was taken to a government hospital in Manali, where doctors performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him. After examining him, the doctors declared his death.
  • Police suspect that altitude sickness (hypoxia) may have led to the death. They added that no external injuries were found on the body.
  • “The family refused to conduct an autopsy. Prima facie there is nothing wrong and there were no external injuries on the body. The body has been handed over to the family,” Manali DSP KD Sharma said.
