Ever since Vijay announced that ‘Jana Nayagan’ would be his last film before entering public life, anticipation has been running high across Tamil Nadu – but the excitement has also been accompanied by growing nervousness over its release. The film was originally scheduled to premiere on Sankranti, but the censor certificate failed to arrive on time, forcing the team to pause the release at the last minute. The unexpected delay left fans confused, especially since the film had long completed its filming and post-production work.
Ever since Vijay confirmed that ‘Jana Nayagan’ will be his last film before entering public life, excitement has intensified across Tamil Nadu, and this has also come along with several tensions related to its release.
The film was initially planned as a Sankranti release. But the censor’s certificate did not arrive on time. This led to the team halting the release at the last minute. The delay surprised fans as the film had completed its shooting and post-production very early.
Court review
Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ gets major legal relief; The film heads to the review committee
After the Sankranti plan collapsed, the team thought of releasing it in February. That window was also closed when a group approached the court alleging that the film contained “strong political and personal criticism”.
The court then appointed a review committee to consider these objections. The report has not yet been submitted. With no update coming from the committee, it has become clear that the film will not be released this month either.
Election conduct rules can further complicate matters
Tamil Nadu is heading towards its next election cycle in April. With the Election Code of Conduct looming, the climate may create additional challenges to the film’s timing.
Taking these factors into consideration, several reports from sites like NT News and Eenadu suggest that the producers have postponed the release to June.
Since June 22 is Vijay’s birthday, the team felt that releasing the film on June 18 would be ideal. However, the official announcement is still awaited, and sources insist that internal discussions are ongoing. This timing is seen as commercially strong due to the festive weekends and fan celebrations.Earlier updates appeared via Valai Pechu’s YouTube channel, which reported that the film will not be released anytime soon. Instead, the channel claimed that the plan – if all goes smoothly – is to release the H. Vinoth directorial in June 2026, targeting Thursday, June 18, 2026. According to this update, the date has two strategic advantages: it falls just before Vijay’s 52nd birthday celebrations and coincides with the Muharram long weekend.‘Jana Nayagan’ features Mamita Baiju in the lead role, while Pooja Hegde plays the female lead.
