This is the first time that Kemchand is meeting the chief minister and other union ministers after he took charge as chief minister of the state on February 4.

Kemchand, accompanied by his two deputies – Nimsha Kipgen of the BJP and Lucy Dekho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) – met Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Siva Tirth.

“Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri @YKhemchandSingh, along with Deputy Prime Minister, Smt. @KipgenNemcha, Shri Lucy Dekho met Prime Minister @narendramodi,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X.

The Prime Minister also invited the Prime Minister to visit the state at an appropriate date.

The Prime Minister said that during the meeting he briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing measures taken by the state government to restore peace, stability and communal harmony across Manipur. The Manipuri delegation also reiterated the firm commitment among the state’s communities to ensure inclusive governance and long-term reconciliation, according to a government statement.

Kemchand thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting, saying it “marks an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to accelerate inclusive growth and development in Manipur.”

“We express our sincere gratitude, Honorable Prime Minister, for your interest in Manipur and for sparing your valuable time for us. We look forward to Manipur’s progress towards peace and development under your guidance,” he said in a post on his official X account.

The Prime Minister rushed to the national capital on February 21 amid speculation over Cabinet expansion. Since then, he has met several ministers including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Dhonr Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia and Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He also met BJP president Nitin Nabin.
