A Pawan Hans helicopter crashed into the sea shortly after taking off on Tuesday morning from Port Blair – a town located in the northern part of Middle Andaman Island.

The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Tuesday, spokesman Pawan Hans said, adding that the helicopter had a “brief landing accident near Mayabunder in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.”

“The helicopter took off from Port Blair with a crew of two and five passengers on board. Everyone was rescued and is safe. Spokesman Pawan Hans added that no injuries were reported.

Officials familiar with the matter said that the helicopter fell into the sea, 300 meters from the runway, at around 9.30 am when it was scheduled to land in Mayabandar.
