In a way, Quentin Tarantino’s criticism of Matthew Lillard was a broad criticism good thing for Five nights at freddy’s actor. It was only in the wake of the director’s harsh comments that Lillard was able to realize how much he was held in high esteem by his fans and others in the industry.
But first, he had to go through a bit of hell.
And for a refresher, Tarantino said Bret Easton Ellis Podcast Last December, Lillard was on a list of actors he said he had no interest in. Speaking initially about Paul Dano, Tarantino said: “I’m not saying he gives a bad performance. I’m saying he gives a non-entity.” [performance]. I don’t care about him. “I don’t care about Owen Wilson, I don’t care about Matthew Lillard.”
In a new interview with the people“I felt like I died and was in heaven watching everyone peacefully tweet out,” Lillard says. “I mean, it was really part of your wake, kind of sitting there reliving all the nice things people say after you die.”
“Everyone, from the people at the mall this weekend with my kids to George Clooney and James Gunn and Mike Flanagan, I mean people have been kind of generous when they’ve told me how much they love me and how much they like my work,” Lillard continued.
Gunn posted on social media, calling Lillard “one of my favorite players (and actors).” Clooney said he would be honored to work with any of the actors criticized by Tarantino. Flanagan – who has played Lillard in several films – offered a strong defense of the actor, calling him “the greatest.”
Lillard added that Tarantino’s comments are particularly hurtful because he “would love” to be in one of his movies. “I think he’s a great filmmaker, and just getting punched in the mouth was kind of frustrating.”
Lillard initially responded to the comments at GalaxyCon Columbus, saying: “Eh, whatever. Who cares. The point is, this hurts your feelings. It’s too bad. And you wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to someone who’s a big name in Hollywood.”
Lillard appears next Screaming 7reprising his role from the first film of the franchise.
