The remainder of 2026 has three “glitch” months – March, August and November – for those who receive Social security. About 51 million Americans receive Social Security payments each month.

Traditional Social Security payments are paid based on the recipient’s birthday. The predictable schedule is that people born between the 1st and 10th of the month, regardless of year, get payments on the second Wednesday of the month. On the other hand, those born from the 11th to the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday. People born between the 21st and 31st get their salaries on the fourth Wednesday.

Despite any change in the calendar, these payments are sent every month. However, this is not the case for Supplemental Security Income payments, which are generally issued on the first day of each month, except when the calendar mandates an early payment.

The most famous “bug”.

In the “glitch” months — March, August and November — SSI recipients, typically low-income seniors and people with disabilities, will not receive their regular payments, but will instead receive two payments in each of the preceding months.

This occurs in relation to the days of the week and schedules set by the federal government. The Social Security Agency does not issue SSI deposits on weekends or… Federal holidays.

For example, because March 1 is a Saturday, your payment will be issued on Friday, February 27. This means that there will be no actual SSI filing in March.

August 1 is a Saturday, which will postpone payment until Friday, July 31. Likewise, since November 1 is a Sunday, payment will be made on Friday, October 30.

2026 SSI Payment Schedule

Here’s a look at the full payment schedule for the remainder of 2026:

  • March – SSI was not paid, funds were deposited on February 27th
  • April – SSI on April 1
  • May – SSI on May 1
  • June – SSI on June 1
  • July – SSI on July 1 and then August payment on July 31
  • August – No SSI payment
  • September – SSI paid on September 1
  • October – SSI payment on October 1 and then November payment on October 30
  • November – No SSI payment
  • December – Pay SSI on December 1 and then December 31 to cover the first payment for January 2027 since January 1 is a federal holiday.

Notably, people who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 or receive both Social Security and SSI receive their Social Security on the third day and their SSI on the first day (except when the first day falls on a weekend or holiday). The Social Security Administration advises those who fail to get their payment on the expected date to allow an additional three days before contacting the agency.
