'Mothers and sisters live in fear': PM Modi writes to the people of Bengal ahead of elections

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday wrote a letter to voters of West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections in the state, saying he was “heartbroken” over what he described as the state’s current situation. In his letter, the Prime Minister accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of “severe non-cooperation” and said the fate of the state would be decided in a few months.Prime Minister Modi began the message with ‘Joy Maa Kali’: “Only a few months are left, after which the fate of West Bengal will be decided. It is your considered decision to determine the course of the future of the next generation.”

The residents of Sonar Bangla, both young and old, are today victims of profound deprivation. My heart is heavy with their suffering so, from the depths of my being, I made one resolution – the resolve to make West Bengal developed and prosperous.

“There are only a few months left, after which the fate of West Bengal will be decided. It is your considered decision to determine the course of the future of the next generation.

The people of my dream, Sonar Bangla, young and old alike, are today victims of profound deprivation. My heart is heavy with their suffering and therefore, from the depths of my being, I have made one resolve, the resolve to make West Bengal developed and prosperous.”“Despite non-cooperation and extreme hostility from the state government, today 50 million people in West Bengal have been brought into the banking system through the Jan Dhan Yojana.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, we have enabled construction of 8.5 million toilets in the state. While the ruling party deprives the poor of their basic livelihood, we have extended a helping hand to small traders and entrepreneurs through loans worth Rs 2.82 lakh.

Through the Atal Pension Yojana, we have helped 5.6 million senior citizens achieve financial security in their old age. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, we have provided cooking gas connections to over 10 million families, freeing mothers and sisters from the hardships of smoky kitchens.

At a time when food providers are struggling to survive, we consider ourselves fortunate to have directly supported over 5.2 million farmers through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. If the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, Prime Minister Modi has claimed that it will build a country where women feel safe, where youth do not need to leave home to work, and where Bengali culture regains its glory.“My humble appeal to the people of West Bengal: Join this journey of development.

I eagerly await an opportunity to serve you – an opportunity to build a nation where, in Gurudev’s words, “the mind is fearless and the head is held high.” The letter read: West Bengal is free from corruption and misgovernance.“A West Bengal where women feel safe, where youth do not need to leave their homes for work, and where Bengali culture is regaining its glory. Our refugee brothers and sisters, victims of religious persecution, will obtain citizenship through the Uniform Citizenship Act, and governance free of illegal infiltration will be established,” he added.
