Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Edappadi Palaniswami, criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government after the Delhi Police on Saturday arrested six suspects from the state for allegedly planning a terror plot with the support of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, and Bangladeshi terror organisations.

Former BJP state president K. Annamalai said law and order in the state is in disarray. “The corrupt and incompetent DMK government has turned a once peaceful country into a safe haven for terrorists, anti-social elements, international drug smugglers and ruthless criminals,” Annamalai said. “The most competent and respected civil servants in the state are today busy settling contractors’ tenders. Instead of acting in the best interests of the state and the country, the corrupt DMK government has compromised and remained a silent spectator to this, all in the name of appeasing its own core vote bank.”
The DMK hit back, alleging that the Union government was responsible for crime in the state.
“It is the incompetence of the BJP-led Union government that has led to terrorists operating freely in Tamil Nadu,” DMK spokesperson Saravanan said.
“NIA under Home Minister Amit Shah is napping. How did Bangladeshis come to Tamil Nadu?… Does DMK control Bangladesh’s border with India? Does DMK control immigration at airports and seaports?”
On Saturday, six Bangladeshi nationals, working at the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) factory in Tirupur, out of eight, were arrested for allegedly being part of a terror plot at the behest of the ISI and Bangladesh-based extremist organisations.
“The Delhi Police team has taken all six of them. They (Delhi Police) came and arrested the six people. We have just provided custody of the suspects for one night. They (Delhi Police team and the suspects) have already left for the national capital,” a senior police official said. The six detainees were identified as: Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Omar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ujjal. The other two were arrested in West Bengal.
Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) president KM Subramanian told a news agency that they have given a set of instructions to all their members, exporters and other stakeholders in Tirupur while recruiting workers. “But this was unexpected,” he added. “TEA will once again raise awareness among all our members to double-check the Aadhaar card before hiring migrant workers.”
