The word has finally spread on MS Dhoni. Yes, he will play in the 2026 Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. The league starts next month. In the last two seasons, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the designated captain, but when something like injuries happens to him, Dhoni is always brought back to the helm.

The 44-year-old Dhoni has not scored goals in a prolific manner either in the last few years. If truth be told, he chooses to carry out the arrangement more often than not. Many believe that he knows he is finished as a player, and as a result he does not want to play too many balls and hurt his team’s chances. Whatever the case may be, the IPL franchise doesn’t want him to stay away into the sunset as they always find some way to convince him to continue.

said CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan NDTV The former India captain will continue playing in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Dhoni is the only captain in the world to have won all three ICC white-ball tournaments and has won five IPL titles, all with CSK.

Dhoni is still a fan favorite!

CSK fans will surely rejoice at this confirmation from Viswanathan. Despite all the doubts over whether he would play in the ISL or not over the past few seasons, Dhoni has never categorically said that he is distancing himself from the ISL. His brand still has a lot of character, and no matter where he plays, be it in Chennai or any other stadiums in the Indian Premier League, he still gets a special kind of reception from the spectators.

Not long ago, Dhoni made it very clear on YouTube that he had no desire to join the commentary box as most retired cricketers do. That was a huge gift, of course on the back burner.

“Commentary is a very difficult thing,” he said. “I feel like there is a very fine line between describing the game and going into this process in an area where you start criticizing the individuals who play the game. It is a very fine line.”

“Often, you don’t even feel that what you’re doing might be borderline wrong. You always want to be on the other side as you describe the game. If you feel something is wrong, say it.”

He added: “But how to express the matter, this is also an art, and how to raise the matter politely so that no one feels targeted… If the team is losing, there are reasons behind that, and you must have skill in describing those reasons without making anyone feel bad. This is the art of commentary.”
