New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at Hyderabad House. Prior to this, Silva was received at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday ahead of his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed the Brazilian President on his arrival.
Discussions are expected to focus on securing supplies of critical minerals, expanding bilateral trade and strengthening strategic supply chains, as India looks to reduce its dependence on China and deepen ties with resource-rich partners.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also welcomed the Brazilian President on his state visit.

“Honored to visit Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva @LulaOfficial, who is in India on a state visit. I deeply appreciate his warm sentiments and guidance on strengthening our strategic partnership. I am confident that his meetings with Prime Minister @narendramodi later today will add new momentum to our relations,” Jaishankar wrote to X.
During President Lula’s official visit from February 18 to 22, he participated in the Second AI Impact Summit.President Draupadi Murmu will also host a banquet in his honour. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan is also expected to visit President Lula.This is President Lula’s sixth visit to India. President Lula is accompanied by about 14 ministers and a large delegation of senior executives of Brazilian companies. The accompanying ministers are scheduled to hold meetings with their Indian counterparts.The high-level participation comes at a time when New Delhi is accelerating efforts to diversify its resources Rare earth elements – Vital for electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, electronics and defense manufacturing. Brazil, which has the world’s second largest reserve of rare earth elements, stands out as a key partner in this strategy.
