Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday called for the creation of a dedicated Union Ministry for Artificial Intelligence to create laws to prevent misuse of AI and protect national security.

In his keynote address at the India Impact and AI Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, the Center urged the setting up of an Indian AI Council, on the lines of the GST Council or NITI Aayog, as an apex body for AI policy and coordination, as well as a National AI War Room with participation from the Center and states to monitor rapid developments in AI. “Hyderabad is ready to host and build such an AI war room, if the Centre approves it,” he said.
The Prime Minister also called for the establishment of a global AI university with campuses across India focused on integrating India into the global AI supply chain, including securing rare earths, he added.
Among others, Revanth Reddy also proposed a national assessment of job displacement due to AI, along with massive investment in reskilling and job creation, and the formation of a national AI fund to support startups and encourage youth-led AI innovation.
“The Telangana government proposes to set up an AI startup village that will serve the entire nation, with the support of the Centre,” he announced.
