The deceased, named Roop Jahan, was in love with a 22-year-old man from the same village, named Shivam Saini. The victim’s father justified his son’s behavior, saying that it was right to kill a girl who insulted her family.

“Roop’s behavior was inappropriate. She was in love with Shivam Saini and wanted to marry him. The villagers were making fun of me. My son has no remorse. It was right to kill the girl who insulted us. He killed her in a fit of rage,” PTI quoted the father, identified as Nosher, as saying.

He added: “We are Muslims, and he is a Saini. How could we have concluded the marriage? It would have been different if the boy had belonged to our community.”

The accused called 112 to surrender himself

According to UP Police officials quoted in a PTI report that the accused, identified as Jain Alam, informed the police himself and confessed to killing his sister after reporting the crime from Matwali Patti area within the limits of Asmoli police station. Police said he was taken into custody.

ASP Kuldeep Singh said that late on Thursday night, Jaane Alam made a PCR call informing him that he had killed his sister Roop Jahan.

The investigation revealed that the woman was in a relationship with a man from another community. India Today reported that the woman left her home to live with her lover’s relatives in Amroha district. Her family returned her after villagers intervened.

This relationship angered his brother, who strangled her in a fit of rage on Thursday night when the family was away.

The police said that a case had been registered against the accused based on a complaint filed by the mother of the deceased’s lover. Investigators are also questioning other family members to determine if anyone else was involved in the alleged plot, India Today reported.
