Army Commander General Upendra Dwivedi met Vice Admiral Justin Jones, Chief of Joint Operations, Australian Defense Forces, at the Joint Operations Command.
NEW DELHI: Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, during his visit to Australia from February 16 to 19, held extensive communications with the senior leadership of the Australian Defense Forces to review the ongoing bilateral engagements and chart paths for expanding cooperation between the two militaries.The discussions focused on enhancing the scope and complexity of joint exercises, enhancing the exchange of professional military education and enhancing interoperability between the two forces. An army statement said his visit pushed forward defense cooperation between India and Australia and deepened the strategic alignment between the two countries.As part of his high-level engagements, General Dwivedi met the Chief of Defense Forces and the Defense Minister.
The statement indicated that at the Headquarters of the Joint Operations Command (HQJOC), the general reviewed Australia’s integrated and multi-domain operational framework with the Joint Operations Commander, and gained insights into joint planning and implementation mechanisms.In Sydney, General Dwivedi interacted with the Forces Command, Special Operations Command and 2nd Division of the Australian Army. The exchanges enabled both sides to exchange views on force readiness, operational concepts and training methodologies.
Special attention was paid to the Ostrahind bilateral military exercise, with both sides expressing their commitment to further enriching its next edition in India in 2026.In Canberra, General Dwivedi held substantive discussions with Lieutenant General Simon Stewart, Commander of the Australian Army. Building on their shared professional connection as graduates of the US Army War College (Class of 2015), the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional ties and expanding avenues of cooperation. A comprehensive roundtable discussion at Australian Defense Force Headquarters addressed issues related to force modernization, emerging technologies and future operating environments.
