Hollywood producer Shannon Mackintosh, Universal Music UK’s Globe Originals team in slate of music-based features

Hollywood producer and longtime Quentin Tarantino collaborator Shannon Mackintosh (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight) has struck a deal with Universal Music Group UK’s synchronization and branding company Globe for a range of music-based feature films.

Led by President Mark Robinson, the London-based Globe is expanding in the United States and looking beyond its traditional business. McIntosh’s subsidiary McIntosh Films has now partnered with its Globe Originals arm in what the two companies describe as a “bold slate of music-driven feature films.”

Companies previously involved with Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, They said they are “in active development on the list,” citing several projects.

dropWritten and directed by BAFTA award-winning director Dominic Savage, with Simon Ashley, Evan Peters and Sam Claflin attached, it is described as “a contemporary love story developed in close collaboration with acclaimed music producer and composer Marius de Vries.”

dusty vs dusty, A new twist on the biopic, it will explore identity, artistry and self-creation, with two actors set to play Dusty Springfield, with producer Kate Driver attached. The project is the brainchild of Sophie Edelstein and co-written by Emma-Jayne Unsworth.

andAnnie Oakley is suspendedwhich is being called an “entirely music-driven feature” and “a rebellious love story set in the wild American frontier,” will feature an original soundtrack created by Dan Smith, songwriter and lead singer of the band Bastille, and Ralph Bellemounter, songwriter and lead singer of To Kill a King.

The two projects “combine Globe Originals’ access to world-class artists, composers and music catalogs with McIntosh Films’ track record in premium cinema,” the partners said. Globe Originals’ mission is to advance films using music as the creative engine, “opening opportunities for artists in new ways.”

McIntosh stressed that “the music in these films is not decorative, but rather structural.” “Globe Originals creates an extraordinary bridge between artists and filmmakers, and this slate reflects a shared ambition to make cinema emotionally and culturally alive.”

“There is a huge opportunity to bring together the worlds of music and film – and this partnership is designed to do just that,” said Mark Robinson, President of Globe Originals. “Working with Shannon and McIntosh Films allows us to develop projects where artists, filmmakers and composers collaborate from the beginning to create truly special audio and visual experiences.”
