EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Longtime Los Angeles Dodgers executive Lon Rosen is moving to the front office of the Los Angeles Lakers in the latest significant change for the 17-time NBA champion organization after it was sold last year.

Rosen will be the Lakers’ president of business operations, the team announced Thursday. He will replace Tim Harris, who plans to step down after 35 years with the Lakers.

Rosen has been the Dodgers’ executive vice president and chief marketing officer since 2012, the same year Mark Walter purchased the baseball team. The Dodgers became a powerhouse under Walter’s ownership on and off the field, amassing star-studded rosters that have won three of the last six World Series.

Walter completed his purchase of the Lakers in October, purchasing majority ownership from Jeanie Buss and her family at a franchise valuation of $10 billion.

“Finding someone who can replace Tim in overseeing the business side of our organization will not be easy at all,” Boss said in a statement. “The answer, we quickly realised, is someone Mark and I both know well — and who already understands the values, culture and commitment to excellence at both the Dodgers and Lakers.”

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said earlier this month that his team would begin to emulate aspects of the Dodgers’ successful front office structure. The Lakers have long been viewed as running one of the leaner front offices in the NBA, and Pelinka said Walter’s Lakers intend to add depth and talent across their organization off the court.

Rosen actually began his sports career with the Showtime Lakers in the 1980s as an intern and front office executive. He went on to become Magic Johnson’s agent and business partner before joining the Dodgers.

Jenny Buss’ younger brothers, Joey and Jesse, left their front office positions a few weeks after Walter completed the purchase. Lakers governor Jeanie Buss will remain under Walter’s ownership for the foreseeable future.
