MILAN — Figure skater Lee Hae-in earned a top-10 finish in her Winter Games debut in Italy on Thursday, earning her best marks of the season in both the free skate and overall score in the process.
Li finished eighth in the women’s singles with 210.56 points after earning 140.49 points in the free skate at the Milan Ice Rink in Milan. She earned 70.07 points in the short program on Tuesday.
While skating to Georges Bizet’s “Carmen Suite No. 1,” Lee opened her free program with a clean combination of a double pivot and a triple toe loop. The 20-year-old landed all of her jumps cleanly and recorded level 4 maximums on all three of her spins and step sequences late in the program.
Lee received 74.15 points in the Technical Component Score (TES) for her execution of the technical elements and 66.34 points in the Program Component Score (PCS) for her artistry and choreography.
Shin Ji-a, the other South Korean on the ice, finished 11th with 206.68 points, just 1.77 points shy of her season best. She earned a personal best of 141.02 points in the free skate after earning 65.66 points in the short program.
In the free skate, set to “Liebestraum No. 3 in A-Flat Minor” by Franz Liszt, Sheen had a wobbly landing on a triple loop but executed other jumps cleanly. It did not receive the maximum level of Flying Camel spin but received high marks for its step sequences and other choreographic elements.
I got 75.05 points on the TES and 65.97 points on the PCS.
American Alyssa Liu won the gold medal with 226.79 points, slightly ahead of Japanese Kaori Sakamoto, who scored 224.90 points. Another Japanese skater, Ami Nakai, won the bronze medal with 219.16 points.
