Two teenagers have died of carbon monoxide poisoning at a holiday park on the Yorkshire coast.
A 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were found dead at a rental property at Little Eden Holiday Park in Bridlington on Wednesday, police said.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of negligence and is being questioned by the police.
Detectives are investigating whether the teenagers died from carbon monoxide poisoning, said Supt Matt Peach, of Humberside Police.
He said: “This is extremely distressing and heartbreaking for the families of the teenagers involved and they are at the forefront of our minds and actions.
“Specially trained officers have been supporting the families over the last 24 hours and I would urge the public to refrain from any speculation and respect their privacy.”
Some holidaymakers are understood to have been asked to leave the park on Wednesday, where families had gathered for the half-term school break.
The force said the police cordon remained in place as investigations continued on Thursday. It said it was working with Humberside Fire and Rescue, the Health and Safety Executive and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Peach said: “We are at a very early stage and although the deaths are unexplained at this time, we are exploring the possibility that they may be linked to carbon monoxide poisoning, with further inquiries ongoing with our partner agencies.
“Emergency services and partner agencies have attended all other properties on site to provide advice, support and guidance and ensure the safety of everyone.
“We are aware of the shock and upset this has caused the local community, and I promise we will do everything we can to find out exactly what happened. Those who live in the area will continue to see an increased police presence and will provide further updates as soon as we can.”
Travel company Liv Retreats, which operates the Little Eden holiday park, has been contacted for comment.
