Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan was examined by a team of doctors on Sunday (Feb 15, 2026) after he reported an eye problem, but his party denied the checkup.

A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer visited Khan on Thursday, on a Supreme Court order to get a first-hand report on his living conditions. The report showed that Khan complained of loss of 85% vision in his right eye.

The court directed authorities to conduct a detailed medical examination of the 73-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician by February 16.

A team of doctors visited Khan and thoroughly examined the affected eye, sources said.

“The medical examination continued for an hour and the team left after collecting the blood samples,” sources said.

Last month, Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad and underwent a procedure on his eye.

However, during a meeting with the lawyer he complained of loss of vision, his family and PTI demanded that his treatment be allowed in a private hospital.

Government figures on Saturday indicated that Khan would soon be taken to a hospital, but instead doctors were taken to jail for tests.

PTI denied verification

His party refused to accept the latest inspection, PTI said, without his family and Khan’s personal doctors, saying the government’s attitude was “malicious”.

“Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf categorically rejects the recent behavior of the government and prison administration regarding the medical examination of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s eye in Adiala Jail.

“The government’s claim that a message has been sent to the party leadership to come to jail during the test is, in fact, a cynical attempt to divert attention from the main issue,” PTI said in a post on X.

“This matter is never about the presence or absence of party leadership. In such sensitive and delicate medical matters, the constitutional, moral and legal right to take decisions belongs to Imran Khan’s family.

“And the family cannot take an informed decision unless Imran Khan’s personal doctors are present during the examination. Therefore, there is no moral rationale or legal justification in formally inviting the party leadership,” it said.

Khan has been in jail since August 5, 2023, who was imprisoned in his Lahore residence after being convicted in a corruption case. Currently, he is lodged in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
