Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday urged party workers to target 50% of the total votes in each booth in the next Assembly elections in the state, which is expected to be held in April.
Nabin, who is on a two-day tour of Assam, was addressing the ‘Panna Pramukh Sammelan’, a gathering of party workers responsible for communicating with all voters listed on a single page of the voter list.
He said: “In the last assembly polls, you helped secure 36-37% of the party’s votes, and in the general elections you helped us secure 46-47% of the total votes. I give you the target of securing 50% of the total votes in each booth in the upcoming assembly elections.”
“This determination will not only ensure victory for us, but will sink the boat of Congress forever. It is a party that compromises on the security of the country. I urge you all to visit every Assembly, meet every voter and inform them about your leaders, party ideology and the achievements of the government,” Nabin added.
He accused the Congress of encouraging illegal Bangladeshi immigrants for the sake of vote bank politics and doing nothing to protect the country’s borders by building proper infrastructure. Nabin praised the BJP government in the state for its efforts to evict illegal settlers from government lands.
“The Congress did not have ‘niti’, ‘nayat’ and ‘netritva’ (policy, intention and leadership). We are proud to have these three elements,” Nabin said.
