The United States and Iran are negotiating in Geneva

A second round of talks will be held in Geneva. The round comes a week after Iranian and US negotiators met in Muscat, Oman, and began talks to defuse rising tensions.

Recently restarted talks are aimed at avoiding the possibility of US military action, with Tehran expressing cautious optimism over Washington’s “more realistic” stance on its nuclear program. The second round of talks will also be mediated by Oman.

Trump warns of US military action

Meanwhile, Trump warned Iran of possible consequences if it fails to strike a deal with the United States, as negotiators prepare for the latest round of talks in Geneva on Tuesday.

On board Air Force One, the US president said he would participate “indirectly” in Iran-US talks.

“I will be indirectly involved in those discussions. And they will be very important,” Trump told reporters.

“I don’t think they want the consequences of not doing the deal,” he added. If the talks do not succeed, Reuters reported that the United States would be on standby for a military operation in Iran, which Washington has already warned Tehran amid a violent crackdown on protesters.

I hope they’ll be more reasonable. They want to make a deal… We have peace in the Middle East. You’ll see some flares here and there, but we’ve had a vital B-2 attack in the Middle East.
