Two officers with the Beech Grove Police Department were shot Monday afternoon near Beech Grove High School in Marion County, Indiana, and the suspect remains at large. The incident took place at Diplomat Court near the school.

representative. (unsplash)The suspect, believed to be “armed and dangerous,” remains at large and a manhunt is underway, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said, adding that they are assisting the Beech Grove PD in the manhunt.

IMPD described the shooting suspect as “a black male in his 30s wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.” An earlier update asked residents to take shelter as the search continued.

Local Fox affiliate, Fox59, reported that police were called to the scene at 5:37 p.m. local time. The alert was upgraded to a manhunt at about 5:45 p.m.

IMPD said Emerson Avenue is closed all the way from Churchman Avenue to I-465 and drivers and pedestrians are asked to take alternate routes.

The current condition of the injured officers is not known. A media staging has been set up at Regions Bank in Emerson and Hornet to provide more information on the incident.

Beech Grove High School is located at 5330 Hornet Ave in Beech Grove on the east side of town near Diplomat Court.
