Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel will deliver the first Dr Manmohan Singh Memorial Lecture in the national capital on February 26, sources said in New Delhi on Thursday (February 13, 2026).

The lecture was organized by Dr. Manmohan Singh Trust.

Merkel, who shared a good rapport with the former prime minister, will deliver the inaugural lecture series in Singh’s memory. He will speak on “Germany and India in Times of Global Change”.

Singh, considered the architect of India’s economic reforms and consensus builder in the rough world of politics, Died at All India Institute of Medical SciencesDelhi, on December 26, 2024. He is 92 years old.

Manmohan Singh led the country as Prime Minister for 10 years from 2004-2014 and helped establish the country’s economic framework as Finance Minister. He was a renowned name in the global economic and financial fields.

A memorial trust has been set up by the former prime minister’s family to oversee the construction of his memorial at the National Memorial site. The government has earmarked a grant of ₹25 lakh for a site and trust for former President Pranab Mukherjee next to his memorial.
