Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleiman said on Thursday that most tasks performed in white-collar jobs will be fully automated by artificial intelligence (AI) in the next 12 to 18 months.

He also made reference to software engineering, where professionals are said to be using AI to help produce much of their code. He said that in this situation, the role of engineers has now shifted to doing “strategic” things, like architecting and putting things into production. This change in job roles has occurred in the last six months, experts said.

AI models can code better than most humansFurther, he said there are AI models today that can code better than most human coders, “maybe all of them so far.”
Suleman also highlighted that creating a new model would be as easy as “creating a podcast or writing a blog.” Organizations or organizations will be able to design an AI according to their needs.
AI agents will be able to manage the workflows of large organizations within the next two to three years, he said in the interview.

For Microsoft, Suleman talks about creating its own foundation model of AI, which will have a good training team and organize and sort all the data.
The comments from the Microsoft AI boss come amid concerns that AI will replace human jobs and lead to mass layoffs. Earlier, Amazon, in a blog post, announced layoffs affecting about 16,000 corporate jobs amid “increasing competition over AI.”
In a blog post last year, Microsoft said it had signed a new agreement with OpenAI, creating a ‘strong partnership’ between the two organizations.
The agreement involves OpenAI continuing as Microsoft’s Frontier Model partner and extending exclusive IP rights to Microsoft. Both companies have been in partnership since 2019 to advance artificial intelligence efforts.
