The video has resurfaced on social media, especially after last week’s India-US trade deal, with external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal asked about it during MEA’s weekly press briefing. “I have not seen it, but if there is such a video, we will take appropriate action,” Jaiswal said while responding to media queries.
Trump’s comments on ‘Modi’s career’On October 15, 2025, under pressure from the Trump White House, Trump claimed that Prime Minister Modi had assured him that India would stop buying Russian oil. “Yes, of course. He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) is a friend of mine. We have a great relationship… I was not happy with India buying oil. And he assured me today that they will not buy oil from Russia. This is a big step,” he said back then.

India’s relations with the United States were strained at the time as the United States imposed punitive tariffs on Indian imports for New Delhi’s fuel purchases from Russia.
During the same presser, Trump shared what US Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gore told him after he returned to Washington from New Delhi. “She loves Trump… I don’t want you to take the word love differently… I don’t want to destroy her political career,” Trump quipped. The clip of the same quote is now back on social media with various claims and speculation surrounding the relationship between the two countries in light of geopolitical developments.
