The investigation into the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie entered its second week. Several developments have been announced by law enforcement agencies. However, law enforcement has not been able to pin down a prime suspect or person of interest.

A social media post suggested a blue necklace was found near her home. There is no official announcement from the police. REUTERS/Rebecca Noble (REUTERS)Amid various ransom calls by several media outlets and a lack of clarity about what happened to Nancy, claims of fabricated evidence and developments in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case are circulating online.

A social media post on X announced that police had found a blue necklace belonging to Nancy. The post details that the item was discovered near his Arizona home, then disappeared, suggesting staged evidence.

Fact Check: The necklace claim is not trueRecent social media posts claimed that a blue heart-shaped necklace was found about 500 meters from the family’s home, but disappeared when police returned to secure the area.

The post also said police are considering the scene to be “staged” and shared evidence to suggest she was forcibly seized and to confuse the investigation.

There is no supporting evidence or official statement from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department that supports the post’s claims. No such items have been confirmed to have been found on or near the Guthrie property as reported by the FBI, local police agencies or local media outlets.

What are the developments confirmed by law enforcement agencies?Since Nancy Guthrie was reported missing, law enforcement declared Nancy’s Catalina Foothills home a crime scene. Authorities believe she was abducted in the early hours of February 1.

Police found forensic indicators that supported that theory, including blood on the porch matched with Nancy Guthrie’s DNA and signs inconsistent with a voluntary exit, such as a damaged home security camera.

Law enforcement conducted an extensive search of the property and also inspected a septic tank, reportedly based on the possibility that items may have been dumped there.

Several ransom notes obtained by multiple media outlets have been verified by law enforcement agencies, including one being pursued by Nancy’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie, and her siblings. The trio issued an impassioned public appeal for information and proof of Nancy’s safety, and confirmed in the video that they would pay the ransom.
