A Beloved Los Angeles Taqueria Made Its Primetime Debut During Bad Bunnies Super Bowl LX The half-time show, delights and amazes its legion of loyal patrons.
Bad Bunny’s 13-minute show is a love letter to Puerto Rico’s culture, history and heritage, with sets depicting sugarcane fields, a housewarming party and a wedding ceremony, complete with Lady Gaga’s salsa performance of her hit “Die With a Smile”.
But in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, Highland Park-based Taqueria Villa’s tacos were a surprise. The Grammy-award winning rapper stopped at various vendors including the Coco Frio stand, Nail Tech and the Piragua stand before heading to the Villas Tacos stand.
Victor Villas, the store’s owner, is a first-generation Mexican-American immigrant who started selling tacos eight years ago from his grandmother’s backyard. Today, the store has three locations in the city, including Los Angeles’ historic Grand Central Market.
in a Instagram post, Villas thanked Bad Bunny, whose full name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, “for choosing me and giving me the opportunity to represent my people, my culture, my family and my business”.
He also acknowledged the importance of Bad Bunny’s historic appearance during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown: “I wouldn’t have sold that first taco if my parents hadn’t made the tough decision to leave their homeland and immigrate to the US for a better life,” he wrote. “It’s for all the immigrants who paved the way before us to make this moment possible.”

Karen Bass, the mayor of LA, also took it Instagram To praise Bad Bunny’s performance and Villa’s inclusion of tacos. “We are a city of immigrants. Seeing @villastacoslosangeles on stage at the Super Bowl makes our city proud.”
Bad Bunny, who made history as the first Spanish-language Latin solo artist to headline the Super Bowl, extolled the role of diversity and multiculturalism in the US by yelling “Good Bless America” before shouting out a list of countries and territories in the Americas. As red, white and blue fireworks lit up the sky at Levi’s Stadium, a message filled the screen: “Only love is stronger than hate.”
