Origin of his stage nameLong before Bad Bunny became a musical inspiration, Bad Bunny spent his childhood dressed as a rabbit.
According to his 2025 interview on the Today Show, the inspiration for “Bad Bunny” came from the costume and the image of Benito dressed as a bunny, holding a basket, and wearing a neutral expression.
He said, “It’s funny because I always say I went crazy in that movie that day. I feel like there’s no such thing as a bad bunny. Even a bad bunny would look like a good bunny. So it’s perfect for me because I can be bad, I can be good.”
Bad Bunny’s familyBad Bunny’s parents, Lisauri Ocasio, a schoolteacher, and Tito Martinez, a truck worker, raised the singer in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico.
During an interview with Billboard in 2018, Bad Bunny joked about his culture and where he came from. He also mentioned that his mother would play pop ballads and merengue, and that he grew up listening to a lot of salsa music with his father.
