Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has opened up about one of the most demanding and creatively executed scenes in his upcoming film ‘Varanasi’. The director, who has made no secret of his excitement for his next big venture, also spoke candidly about the 25-minute episode in the film, which is inspired by the mythological epic. He explained that the extended 25-minute sequence was not a single event, but rather an amalgamation of several moments into an epic battle scene.

“That episode in the film is a combination of multiple sub-plots. So the entire film is about 25 minutes at once,” he says, adding, “Shooting a set of those episodes is like making a film on its own. The emotions we have to experience, the audience, the characters have to go through each sequence.

He added, “Certain episodes, the creative challenges are different. The technical challenges are different. So for everything, it’s like approaching a completely new film, every sub-episode. That’s really challenging.”Rajamouli credits the support of his entire team in bringing this vision together. He shares, “We put all our brains together, put all our efforts together to shoot that scene.

We shot it for 60 days and it was one of the most satisfying scenes for them.”Long before his newly released interviews went viral, Rajamouli made no secret of the challenges of pulling off the scene. He shared, “We had a great time with this episode. We shot for 60 days. It was completed recently. Every sub-episode of a huge episode is like a movie in itself. Every day is a challenge. It requires fresh planning.

We have overcome all of them and completed the sequence. This will be one of the most memorable scenes in my films.

Reflecting on the emotional weight of the shoot and the personal resonance Ramayana has for his family, he said, “I have said many times that I love Ramayana and Mahabharata. Doing Mahabharata was my dream project. Even when I started working on the film, I had no idea that I would be shooting an important scene from Ramayana for this film.”He describes a particular moment from the shoot when he saw it Mahesh Babu Stepping like Ram, he says, “I felt like I was walking on air.
