Thrissur, four major fires broke out from different districts of the state, officials said on Sunday.

Four major fires broke out across three districts of KeralaThe first incident occurred around 1 am in the canteen of Irinjalakuda General Hospital in Thrissur district.

Officials at Irinjalakuda Fire and Rescue Service Station said they received a distress call around 1.15 pm, following which fire tenders were immediately dispatched.

The fire spread to the roof of the canteen and it took more than an hour to control the fire using three fire tenders from Irinjalkuda and Chalakudy, the officer said.

Another major fire was reported at Mullakara in Thrissur district, where a shop involved in the repair and sale of used air conditioners and refrigerators caught fire.

Fire and Rescue Service officials said the incident was reported around 11 am and two fire tenders were deployed to douse the fire.

The shop, along with the air conditioners and refrigerators housed there, was gutted, officials said, adding that it took more than two hours to bring the situation under control.

In another incident, a grocery store was gutted by fire at Velikulangara near Vadakara in Kozhikode district around 2 am on Sunday.

Fire and Rescue Service officials at Vadakara station said the fire had spread to a nearby shop, but fire tenders reached the spot in time and prevented further damage, though the grocery shop was completely gutted.

Meanwhile, another major fire broke out at a used furniture shop in Thiruvananthapuram’s Mannanthala late on Saturday night.

Officials said three fire tenders were deployed to douse the fire, and the operation lasted for more than two hours.

Shops and furniture were burnt to ashes in the fire.
